The International Centre maintains a library containing all the published works of Saint John Henry Newman, and a good amount of the existing translations in other languages.  A great many studies and articles on Newman and his times, in a variety of languages, have also been collected. The literature they need for their Newman research is thus available to students and others from Rome, Italy and other countries, with an opportunity for consultation and assistance.

The Centre provides a reference point for scholars and Friends of Newman worldwide since its foundation in 1975. It sends out to them a Circular Letter containing news of common interest, and present day reflections on Newman.

As Cardinal, Newman’s arms bore the words, ’Cor and cor loquitur’. Faithful to this, the Centre sets out to be not simply a place of study, but also a place of personal and spiritual encounter where students and Friends can experience the environment of a religious family and take part in its life of prayer, in this way encouraging them to follow Newman’s shining example.  In the spirit of Newman, the Centre is likewise open to Christians of other denominations; and to those who are searching for their vocation and place in the Church.

In an effort to make known Newman’s life and the many facets of his philosophy, theology and spirituality, the Centre organizes conferences and academic symposia to which Newman specialists from various countries are invited.  The Centre likewise publishes books and articles, in various languages, on Newman’s theology and spirituality.

The Centre is supported financially by the Spiritual Family The Work. Donations and contributions from Friends and other interested persons are always welcome.
